Pet Travel TO the UK

TAKING YOUR PET ABROAD

When taking your pet abroad either for a holiday or relocating to another country, there are strict regulations that govern their transport which varies depending on the country you are travelling to. We ensure our staff are continually educated about the most current regulations and policies for pets entering and leaving the UK. This means we’re able to give the most up to date expert advice regarding the relocation of your pet.

We strongly advise you to contact us well in advance of your intended travel date, to ensure all necessary requirements for your pet are met. We ship cats, dogs, birds and most domestic animals (including the odd hedgehog!). Click on more information on any of the maps to get an overview of some of the requirements. Full information will be provided when quoted. If your specific location is not listed below, please contact us as we most likely can help you.

We also provide pet transport under the Pets Travel Scheme (PETS) for mainland Europe (including Switzerland and the Canary Islands), Canada, USA and Mexico.

If your holidaying, relocating to, or wanting to fly out of France rather than the UK, we provide Pet Courier services for your pet(s) in our comfortable pet transport vans. Contact us to book your pet’s journey.

CANADA

All pets travelling to Canada need to travel on DEFRA export papers which need to be completed by an Official Veterinarian within 72 hours prior to departure.

Although it isn’t a mandatory requirement, it is highly recommended for all pet’s travelling from the UK to Canada, to be vaccinated against rabies. Unlike many other countries there is not a 21 day wait before pets can travel.

USA

Dogs over 3 months (4 in some states) are required to be vaccinated against rabies.

In some states, but not all, a rabies vaccination is required for cats, but we strongly advise that your pet is vaccinated, as state laws can suddenly change.

A fit to travel certificate from your vet no more than 10 days before departure is an airline requirement.

Measuring Your Pet For Transportation

Your dog or cat must be accurately measured for transportation and must conform to IATA regulations.

EUROPE

Due to the UK having left the EU, regulations have changed slightly as a UK vet is no longer able to issue EU pet passports.

All pet’s travelling to Europe will now need to travel to Europe on either an Animal Health Certificate (AHC) or an Export health Certificate (EHC)

  1. AHC – for non-commercial shipments (when travelling within 5 days of your pets travel) – the AHC needs to be completed within 10 days prior to travel by an Official Veterinarian (OV) which can be found here https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/find-a-professional-to-certify-export-health-certificates
  2. EHC – for commercial shipments, when travelling more than 5 days before/after your pets travel. Ladyhaye will apply for the EHC on your behalf; this will then be sent out directly to the OV and needs to be completed within 48 hours prior to departure. For commercial certificates, the exporter will need to apply for a BALAI number through DEFRA – please ask a member of Ladyhaye for more information.
